AGING BABY BOOMERS REGRET WASTED TIME

Looking Back: Aging Baby Boomers regret all the time that was spent(wasted) doing things we did not want to do, among people we did not want to be with. Sigh!

Looking Forward: Boomers realize there is more time behind us than in front. Harsh! ... but true.

Looking In The Present: Boomers concede that time cannot be held back, saved, reversed, or stopped. Gasp!

Looking At Reality: Time is a priceless commodity that must be protected, spent wisely, and never again wasted.

NOTES
~ Become selective in how you spend time (activities) and with whom (relationships). Each will dwindle to a precious few.
~ Quit the notorious time-waster of dwelling on past regrets and disappointments.     Grand Prize Winner.

AGING BABY BOOMERS SAY 'NO' & 'YES'

When aging Baby Boomers acknowledge that Mother Nature is squeezing in and Father Time is pressing on, we are ready to receive two wonderful 'getting old' gifts.

1) The first gift gives us the ability to say 'No' to what we do not want to do, and to people we do not want to be with.
How liberating!

Supposedly, boomers cannot and do not say 'No' to everything and everybody.
Or ... can we, do we?

2) The second gift emboldens aging Baby Boomers to say 'Yes' to what we want to do, and to people we want to be with.
Because, let's face it: 'If not now, when?'

NOTE
What are your best 'getting old' gifts?

THE AGING BABY BOOMER ATTITUDE

Naturally, Baby Boomers have various attitudes about aging.
What is yours?

PUSHY BOOMERS
These boomers push the truth away by singing: 'Age is just a number, age is just a number, la,la,la ...'
If only this worked.

SURPRISED BOOMERS
They are often bewildered, sometimes stunned, and rarely pleased with getting older.
In numbed panic, these boomers repeatedly ask,
'How did I get here?' Duh!

INDIGNANT BOOMERS
These boomers view signs of aging as opponents to beat down. They are recruiting members for the rock band, Rage Against Aging. Want to join?
Indignant boomers ask, 'How could this happen to me?' Double Duh!!

DEEP DENIAL BOOMERS
They contend that if aging (and being old) is not acknowledged, spoken about, or admitted to, it will go away. When confronted with the effects of aging, i.e. physical, mental, and emotional changes, et cetera these boomers insist, 'This is not who I am.'
Ummm ... then who are you?

GRATEFUL BOOMERS
These boomers appreciate the gift of aging and celebrate longevity.
Can you? Will You?

NOTE
As you probably know, a grateful attitude brings the most joy and the least angst.
Triple Duh!!!

'THE PERFECT AGE' FOR AGING BABY BOOMERS

How do you respond to: What is the best thing about being your age?
Is that silence I hear?

Next question: What is the perfect age?

When most Baby Boomers turn back the clock to the perfect age we usually stop at the presumed perfect physical age - 20ish.
Boomers fondly remember our twenties as the prime of 'beauty' and 'physical strength.'

Boomer women report if it were possible to retrieve their younger bodies, they would flaunt them by wearing bikinis and high heels, 24/7.

Boomer men report they would go shirtless in order to show off their toned muscles and flat stomachs. Plus, they would wear their hair long and flowing. (Boomer men miss their hair.)

Here's the interesting follow-up
When these same boomers remember their youthful poor judgement and foolish mistakes, they pause. On second thought, the majority is reluctant to trade aging wisdom, self-awareness, and confidence for younger, albeit, beautiful bodies.
Would you?

NOTES
As we all know, age does not guarantee an end to poor judgement and foolish mistakes.
And, young people can be wise, self-aware, and confident.
I was not.
Were you?

AGING BABY BOOMERS HAVE MIXED EMOTIONS

Of course, Baby Boomers are happy to still be alive after 50ish to 70ish years. Hooray for us.

Yet as each new birthday rolls around, many of us are convinced we cannot be as old as we are because:
~ The number of candles on our birthday cakes does not reflect how we feel.
~ Boomers are not ready to be this old.
~ We thought it would take longer to get to our current ages.
And,
~ Old got here so fast. Too fast.

NOTE
There are approximately 75 million Baby Boomers in the U.S. and hundreds of millions around the world. Despite being old, quite a few continue to make our presence known and refuse to go quietly. Yay!
